Anatomy and Physiology
The Sarseians appear similar to a crossbreed of terran feline and eastern dragon. They have a bipedal felinoid body and facial shape, and prehensile tendrils upon what would be the pads where whiskers would grow on a terran feline.
They have a pair of bony, crystalline horns that emerge midway between the forehead and crown of the head, close-set and between their ears. These horns grow from birth but are hidden until puberty, when they finally grow enough to breach the skin. The shape which these horns take varies drastically, and is loosely influenced by genetic disposition. They may be forward-swept, backward-swept, pointed upward or downward, or even curled to the sides. Some subcultures have been known to shape a young Sarseian's horns to conform to a standard.
Sarseians have round pupils and a nictitating membrane (third eyelid), as well as a tapetum lucidum (reflective membrane) allowing them to see well in low light. They can see the full spectrum of visible light equally well to a human, but do struggle to see contrast in bright light.
Their ears are slightly wider-set compared to a terran feline, and vary in shape based on genetic descent, ranging from a more cat-like triangular to a more leonine rounded shape. Their tips may be tufted similar to a terran lynx.
A mane of fur grows from their scalp between the horns in a ridge that travels down the skull, neck, spine and down the dorsal side of their tapered, long tail before terminating just onto the ventral side of their tail-tip. Males typically have a facial 'beard' in addition to their regular manes, and can be seen styling them or trimming them for fashion or hygiene. Females' manes are significantly longer along the skull and neck, as well as the tail, whereas Males' manes are longer along the spine.
Their tendrils, the focusing power for their abilities, are anywhere from waist-length to ankle-length, though may grow longer. They appear on the cubs' cheeks as small buds, which swell and lengthen as they grow older. They are usually about two fingers' thickness in diameter, and are fully prehensile, boneless structures. Should these tendrils be severed, they do not grow back on their own.
Their hands appear somewhat paw-like, and they possess a crude grip with non-retractile claws on a fourth phalangeal structure, allowing a full grip range, but no claw retraction. They have a digitigrade leg structure with a shortened calf and elongated arch similar to quadrupedal predators, and carry the weight primarily on the pad of the foot as opposed to the toes. Their toes have a full retractile claw structure, allowing grip when needed.
The average male's height is usually between 1.6 m and 1.8 m, however it is not uncommon for individuals to be as short as 1.4 m or as tall as 2.7 m. Females are similar in height, though slightly shorter overall, on average between 1.5 m and 1.7 m, but not uncommonly between 1.3 m and 2.5 m. Males weigh on average between 63 kg and 90 kg, and females between 45 kg and 82 kg, however nutrition and genetic disposition may cause their weights to rise to 270 kg or as low as 34 kg. Any weights above or below these are considered unhealthy.
An individual Sarseian's fur color is passed down through genetics, and is most commonly somewhere in the range of red to yellow, but individuals have been seen with natural fur colors of green, blue and even purple, however these are extremely rare, and are almost always a very desaturated color. Variations of light and dark are seen throughout the entire color range, with white and black being as common as other colors. Females' fur color is is usually redder than a male's, on average.
The marking types on their fur are also passed down through genetics, and may be one of several marking types including spots, stripes, rosettes, patches, bi-tonal or solid marks. Marking colors are consistently the same color as the individual's base fur color, but may be more or less saturated, lighter or darker than their base color, or void of any color at all and appear white or black.
A Sarseian's horns' texture and color are dependent on the color domain, ranging from red to violet with variations in each type. Their horns are neither fully transparent nor fully opaque, but generally translucent.
A Sarseian goes through puberty much like a human does, around thirteen years of age, with a surge of growth and various changes. The fur grows slightly more coarse, the mane grows longer and thicker, the horns breach the scalp, the tendrils lengthen, and fine motor skills form. A Sarseian generally lives 60 of their years, or around 130 earth years, however this number is slowly climbing as technology allows healthier living.
Sex and Reproduction
While both male and female Sarseians possess six nipples, a females' breasts are usually quite small, sometimes almost unnoticeable. While pregnant and immediately after, or around a pregnant female, they will swell with milk to provide for the cubs.
An impregnated female will gestate for 12 of their months (approximately 28 earth months), and may bear anywhere from one to three cubs on average, not including twins, triplets or the extremely rare quadruplets, with the exception of those living near the Fertility artifact, who have been known to double or triple conceived cubs per litter. It is highly unlikely that a Sarseian would be able to find another compatible species to mate with, so inter-species crossbreeds are likely impossible.
A Sarseian sleeps for four hours after their two major meals of the day totaling eight hours. Some have adopted a single 8 hour sleep cycle, however. Their diet requires a high amount of protein and amino acids found in plant life, seafood, legumes and red meat found on their planet.
While a Sarseian's genitals are binary, there are many cases where the Sarseian themselves are neither male nor female. This is due to the fact that a Sarseian's gender is determined well after conception. As three pairs of genitals form, each pair may form as male or female. A male's genitals perform the function of the prostate and testicle in combination secreting both seminal fluid and sperm at the same time, and a female's genitals perform a the opposite duty, secreting a fertilizing lubricant and ova.
An individual that has no male genitalia will have no penis, clitoris, or any trace of male external genitalia. An individual that has no female genitalia will have no vulvae or vaginal opening whatsoever, but a sheathed penis and pair of scrotal-bound testicles as well as two internal pairs in the abdominal cavity. A male's penis is generally between 30 and 40 cm long with a canine-similar knot of between 8 and 15 cm in diameter. Their scrotum holds two testicles around 9 to 17 cm in diameter, with with the internal pairs between 6 and 12 cm each. Should an individual have one or more pairs of the other gender's genitalia, they will have both a penis and a vulva, with both male and female anatomy fully functional, though each will be less fertile than a fully-male or full-female individual.
Both the vulva and penis have a structure that performs the duty of keeping the other firmly mated with them by swelling with blood, forming a canid-similar knot on the penis, or a restrictive canal on the vulva. A male's knot has several bulbs all stacked on top of each other, producing several swells ascending the shaft of the penis. These knots are highly receptive to pressure, producing a great deal of pleasure when squeezed. A female's restrictive canal works in tandem with, and opposing to the male's knot, working to hold the male in place by squeezing right behind his base knot. This restrictive canal is greatly sensitive to touch and pressure.
A male's genitals will, upon arousal, begin to swell to prepare for the forthcoming ejaculation. The more aroused a male becomes, the more pronounced the swelling becomes. This swelling will not recede until an ejaculation occurs. If a Sarseian male is aroused without ejaculation for an extended period, this swelling can become uncomfortable both in the scrotum and in the abdomen, as it may start to stretch the scrotal tissue, or push at the surrounding organs.
One of the major corner-stones in Sarseian culture and way of life revolves around personalities which manifest themselves by the color of the horn also known as a Horn Personality, and a concept similar to Chi and flowing energy. Horn Personalities have been defined as a layered bio-electric field surrounding one's body. It is the Sarseian belief that all matter has a color, and that through this Horn Personality, one can manipulate matter. Depending on the makeup of the matter, which determines color, a Sarseian's matter-manipulating abilities is filtered, allowing only two resonant energy types to be manipulated easily, while other types are significantly more difficult.
Horn personalites manifest themselves visibly in the horns upon the Sarseian's head. The color of the Horn personalites matches the color of their horns. This allows easy reading of the Sarseian's individual Horn personalites and thus their base personality. Because of this, Matchmakers are traditionally employed to pair up compatible Sarseians, however it is seen merely as an informed opinion. Sarseians are rarely pushed into a relationship.
Sarseians are able to manipulate matter through bio-electrical means, and can manipulate matter within a sphere of influence that extends strongly from the extremities, especially at the ends of the tendrils upon their face.
The area of appreciable influence differs greatly between individuals, ranging on average from 1.4 m to 1.8 m from the tips of their tendrils, however near-microscopic objects may be manipulated in the range of 50 m to 100 m depending on the individual. Appreciable manipulative distance depends entirely on skill and aptitude.
A Sarseian's ability to manipulate matter expends energy from them. The more distant an object is, the more energy must be spent. The more force an object requires to cause manipulation, the more energy must be spent. While it is possible to expend energy to the point of physical collapse, there is a strong stigma against doing so.
It is possible for Sarseians to be able to use their abilities upon themselves to propel themselves in any direction, thus allowing flight, but it is tremendously difficult to control.
Traditionally, a young Sarseian must learn to manipulate their first element by themselves, in order to give themselves a concrete starting block. Further training is given through a mentoring system which trains the individual in the disciplines of the elemental types, training both their minds and their bodies.
There are six energy types that have been discovered by the Sarseians, and each has been given an elemental domain which coincides with the structure they can manipulate.
The Fire elemental domain deals with general molecular thermal dynamics, allowing the heating and cooling of matter.
The Water elemental domain deals with magnetism, flow, and surface tension, allowing the manipulation of liquids and allowing magnetic levitation.
The Earth elemental domain deals with solid-body structure and chemical bonds, allowing the reformation of atomic links and formation of crystalline lattice structures.
The Air elemental domain deals with gaseous volume and pressure, allowing the manipulation of gas-state matter as well as increasing or decreasing pressure of that matter.
The Life elemental domain deals with the flow of the body's energy, allowing the inhibition or assistance of growth, promoting healing.
The Light elemental domain deals with photonic excitement, dampening and directed emission of photons, allowing illumination, concealment or excitement of molecular structures to emit light.
Horn Personality Colors
The Sarseians are able to manipulate these matter types based on sixteen Horn Personality classifications which are based on the part of their personality that is static and will not change over time. While this base personality only changes in exceedingly rare cases, it can happen, and frequently does with life-altering events. In this instance, their Horn Personality may change as well. Should their Horn Personality change, the elements they can manipulate also change. While the domain of their elements may change, their skill with manipulation does not change, allowing them to retain their skill and apply it to other elements instead. These Horn Personality allow one strong harmonic and one weak harmonic elemental domain while strongly damping the other four.
